Filming a Galway wedding
Galway is further afield for me than my usual patch in Leinster, so I plan for that: an early conversation about timings, arriving in good time, and settling in well before anything begins so travel is never the couple's problem.
The filming itself doesn't change with distance. Documentary style, compact equipment, no staging, no directing, and staying in the background so the day belongs to you rather than to a camera crew.
Galway wedding venues
Glenlo Abbey Hotel. An 18th century abbey estate on the shores of Lough Corrib, with two restored Orient Express carriages on the grounds. I've filmed two weddings here.
Cloughan Castle. A restored 13th century castle near Loughrea, taken for exclusive use. See Ava and Christopher's Cloughan Castle wedding recap.
Aran Islands Hotel, Inishmore. The only hotel on the island, a short walk from the ferry, for couples who want a proper island wedding.
I also know Salthill Hotel on Galway Bay. If your venue isn't named here, ask; I travel across the county for the right wedding.
Lough Corrib, the Atlantic and the city
Galway weddings cover a lot of ground: an estate on Lough Corrib, a castle in the countryside near Loughrea, or a ferry crossing out to Inishmore for something completely different. Each end of the county has its own character, and its own light.
