The only hotel on the island
The Aran Islands Hotel sits on the coast road at Kilronan on Inishmore, a few minutes' walk from the ferry terminal. It's the only hotel on the island, with a bar and restaurant on site and seaview chalets alongside the main rooms.
I filmed a wedding here, out on Inishmore rather than the mainland. Once your guests are off the ferry, cars and the usual distractions stay behind on the pier, and everyone settles into island time for a few days rather than just one evening.
Getting a wedding video crew out to Inishmore
The Atlantic views and the island's stone walls and quiet roads give you a completely different backdrop from a mainland venue, and that's really the point of choosing it. There's an on-site pub with live music some weekends too, which tends to end up in the footage.
I work documentary style wherever I'm filming: compact equipment, no staging, no directing, staying out of the way so the day looks like it actually happened. On an island, that also means planning the ferry crossing properly, since there's no driving round a delay.
