Glenlo Abbey Hotel Wedding Videographer
A discreet, documentary-style wedding film on the shores of Lough Corrib, in an 18th century abbey estate just outside Galway city.
An estate on Lough Corrib since 1569
The Ffrench family held this estate from 1569, when it was known as Kentfield House and later Glenlo House, "glen of the lake" in Irish. The Bourke family converted it into the hotel it is today in 1980. Ceremonies here can be held in the 18th century Abbey on the grounds, which is about as far from a hotel function room as a wedding venue gets.
I travel to Galway for the right wedding, and Glenlo Abbey is worth the drive: it's a genuinely different kind of setting to anything in Leinster, and the light off Lough Corrib is its own reward for a videographer.
The River Room and the Pullman
After the Abbey ceremony, receptions move to either the River Room, with views over the estate and Lough Corrib, antique chandeliers and rich fabrics, or the Pavilion Suite.
The genuine curiosity here is the Pullman Restaurant: two original Orient Express carriages, restored and set permanently on the grounds, seating 66. It's not every day a wedding videographer gets to work inside a piece of train history.
I work documentary style wherever I'm filming: compact equipment, no staging, no directing, and a habit of staying out of the way so the day looks like it actually happened.
Planning a wedding at Glenlo Abbey
- The Abbey ceremony is a genuinely distinctive setting, so it's worth checking availability early if it's the reason you're drawn to this venue.
- The Pullman carriages are a lovely option for a smaller wedding dinner if you're not filling the River Room.
- Lough Corrib gives you real water views from parts of the grounds, worth building into your photo and film plan.

The film above is from Sinead and Bob's day. Sinead is a well known singer and musician in the Irish wedding industry, and it was a real honour when she and Bob asked me to film their own wedding.
