A discreet, documentary-style wedding film at an 18th century Georgian house near Foulksmills, with its own cellar bar and grounds made for wandering.
A Georgian house built for wandering
Horetown House is an 18th century Georgian country house outside Foulksmills, deep in the Wexford countryside. Weddings here get the whole estate to themselves rather than sharing it with another party, which changes the pace of the day: nobody is watching the clock for the next group coming in.
Down in the cellar is the 1692 Bar, a proper old pub with stone walls, vaulted ceilings and candlelight, taking its name from the year the space dates to, older than the Georgian house built above it. I work documentary style: compact equipment, no staging, no directing. A house with this much character does most of the work itself.
Where Horetown weddings happen
The Garden Room is the main reception space, a custom-built room with six metre ceilings, cream cotton draping and festoon lights overhead, seating up to 200 for dinner.
The White Room is licensed for civil ceremonies and partnerships and holds 140, with white wooden floorboards and windows looking straight out onto the garden. The adjoining Tea Room has its own fireplace and the same garden views, and works well as a smaller reception space either side of the ceremony.
Plenty of couples marry outdoors on the grounds instead, which is what Aoife and Niall did: their ceremony, and their speeches, were both held outside on one of the hottest days of that summer.

- An outdoor ceremony is a real option here, not just a wet-weather backup, so it's worth deciding early which way you want to go.
- The 1692 Bar in the cellar is a distinctive spot for the evening, and it films beautifully in candlelight.

A wedding I've filmed at Horetown
The film above is from Aoife and Niall's day. Both were living in London and found me while searching for a wedding videographer back home in Wexford. It was one of the hottest days of that summer, and the first wedding where I filmed both the ceremony and the speeches entirely outdoors: it felt like working a destination wedding without leaving Ireland.
